ARTIST COLLECTIVES conversations, methods and practicesThe book emerged from a call-out in 2023 to artist collectives across the globe. It is a conversation with and between collectives, a window into artist-led practices: a snapshot in time. It probes ideas of what an artist collective might be, why they form, how they operate and the significance of collective practices at a particular juncture in our ecological, socio-political and digital lives. It features 23 international collectives with members from over 17 countries including Australia, Kazakhstan, India, United Kingdom, Finland, Austria, United States of America and Canada. It includes contributions from Dr. John Wright,  Pragya Bhargava, Sally Stenton and Svetlana Atlavina.  FEATURED ARTIST COLLECTIVESArray Collective, ARRE, BlueJackal, Coin-Operated Press, D R O S S, Echoes Of Our Earth, Experimental Space Collective, Futures Past Coalition, Greater Manchester Collective, IRMÃ, Michelle Freeman – Elizabeth Gibson, MUD Collective, Naarm Textile Collective, Nova Chroma, Nullstellung, Q_plus_I, SoMo, somom, Tellus ArtLab, The Art and Energy Collective, TROIIICA, Videokaffe, Z’otz*

distillation experimentsSince 2015, my artistic practice has expanded to include distillation and experiments with olfactory character, leading to the development of olfactory art and installations. Prior to this, I frequently incorporated olfactory elements into my performances. My approach to distillation involves deconstructing materials to their fundamental components, allowing for thorough research and exploration within the process of art.

Katrin Woelger is an Austrian artist who works in the fields of performance art, visual art, installation, video, and participatory work. Her work explores themes such as reality, sustainability, family, relationships, hospitality, and social dynamics between humans and non-human beings. She uses alter egos and site-specific, time-specific techniques in her work. Woelger is an advocate for environmental and social justice, and her art often reflects her interests in these areas. She frequently integrates the concept of hospitality into her work, examining how welcoming others, can foster deeper connections and understanding.
